The aim of the Exhibition on Water 2011 is to have the outdated water management systems of the South East European countries revitalized as soon as possible, and to make them, by means of local and foreign investments, reach the level required by strict EU demands referring to the exploitation of waters, the protection of waters, and the protection against waters. In conceiving the development of water management, as well as all activities associated with waters, it is important to enable smooth social and economic development, without causing any detrimental impact on the environment. Resolution of this extremely difficult and delicate task requires great funds and resources.

Funds required to improve the water management of any country of the region are provided from the government budget and the public investment programs, which most often amounts to between 30% and 40% of the total budgetary resources allocated for infrastructure facilities. Other financial resources required are provided through donations or loans extended by governments of some countries as well as by financial institutions/organizations, which in such a way help the implementation of particular water management projects.

Blue Skies over Vienna for Planet xMAP 2011

This week the city of Vienna, Austria welcomed 500 attendees for Luminex's Annual Planet xMAP Europe. With blue skies and average temperatures of 75F, a positive buzz could be felt throughout the historic Hofburg Congress Center. The Hofburg venue itself is breathtaking with its 18 wings, 54 staircases, 19 courtyards and 2,600 rooms. On top of that, a program full of stimulating talks and posters presented by researchers from around the world all utilizing Luminex technology made for two spectacular days. As Vienna boasts 660 museums, many housing some of the world's most important art collections, this year's theme "The Art of Multiplexing" was very appropriate. With xMAP now being utilized in everything from pathogens detection, clinical immunology and human genetics to protein research, clinical microbiology and nucleic acid research, this theme also rings true from a scientific perspective. BioTek was one of 21 event sponsors showcasing various products that assist in xMAP workflow development. The ELx50, ELx405 i EL406 Microplate Washers were on display as three levels of sample processing automation for magnetic or polystyrene bead assays. Next year's 10th Anniversary event will move to Monaco and take place at Monte Carlo's Grimaldi Forum on October 10 - 11.
